Fundraising Report:
President Anna Buetow reports on our two main Fundraising Opportunities coming up:
1) Hunting and Fishing Days. This year it is on September 28th and 29th. We are in the process of reserving a booth and need to think of what activity we would like to do to wave the $75 fee that we are subject to. Members brainstormed several ideas including leaf coloring/shading, camouflage face painting and regular face painting, and matching games. Our activity has to be submitted by August 30th , so members are encouraged to think of any child related activity that we could do and be prepared to discuss further next week. Secretary, Brandi Husch reports that she has tried to contact Tim and Hunter Grounds and will continue to do so, to try and get donations for a raffle at our booth.
2) Mix It Up Day. Present members agreed that we would want to have Mix-It-Up Day before our induction, which is scheduled for October 25th. The tentative date we are looking at now is October 16th. In a brainstorm session most members agreed that we need to try and set up a meeting with the other clubs on campus that are wanting to be involved with the festivities. We are already planning on doing ‘Pie-A-Kappan’ and a C4 signing for sure. Members should be thinking about possible teachers to approach about volunteering to be pied along-side the winning Kappan. Please keep in mind we are trying to raise funds, so try to pick department heads or teachers that are popular with students, so we can raise the most money possible.
Committee Report:
College Project report--
Secretary, Brandi Husch, is pleased to announce that our video has gotten more than 500 views at this time. This is great news, but when the video plans throughout the TVs at John A. Logan you are unable to hear the dialog. Brandi Husch reports that she has contacted the intern that filmed and edited, Jonathan LeBlond, about getting subtitles and he said the next step is to get the exact dialog emailed to him. Brandi states that she will be taking care of it by next week’s meeting. President, Anna Buetow, thanks Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming, for making the flyers that they posted all over campus. Secretary, Brandi Husch, also notes that Terri Campbell will be joining us for next week’s meeting. While she is here we will brainstorm with her on what our best option for gauging if the video helped positively impact the Student Success Center.
President, Anna Buetow, makes a big announcement about the College Project. Next Tuesday, August 27th, 2013, at 7pm is one of John A. Logan's Board of Trustee's meeting. We, Upsilon Pi, get the privilege, thanks to the our in-term advisor and Director of Student Activities & Cultural Events, Adrienne Barkley, to sit in on the board meeting and present a five minute MAX presentation about our video. This will most likely consist of an explanation about what a College Project is, what ours is, presenting our video that we made, and allowing time for some Q&A among the board. Former Vice President of Public Relations, Kayla Malone, will introduce President, Anna Buetow, who will speak for about a minute. Anna will then introduce Secretary, Brandi Husch, and she will have about one minute to speak before the video is shown.
Bulletin board Report--
The Bulletin Board is finished! For now, at least. Go check it out!
Scrapbooking Report--
Vice President of Public Relations and Scrapbook Committee Head, Europe Doan, reports that we need new supplies before progress can be made. She states that it would be helpful to have a budget to work on. President, Anna Buetow told her to make a list of the things she needs and we will figure out the next step from there. *Note: We will be Scrapbooking next Wednesday at 12:30pm in room B48* If you have any question/comments please email Europe at [email protected].
Old Business:
Individual, Non-Group Service Opportunities--
Anyone interested in service opportunities that are by an individual's own time are welcomed to come to any of the following. These are not official club events. However, there may be members going for their own personal enrichment and anyone else is welcome to join!
The time for us to be able to help Sunni Casey, the 6 year old from Johnston City that suffers from leukemia has arrived. There will be a carnival at Johnston City Ball Park on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 1:00pm- 5:00pm. If you can volunteer or have any questions, please contact Secretary, Brandi Husch at [email protected].
We have another opportunity to help Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan’s church. All Nations Church in Johnston City will be receiving another truck load for their food pantry on August 29th from 10:00am-3:00pm. Please feel free to come and go between those hours to accommodate your schedule. Mark your calendars and we will go over the details and next week’s meeting.
New Business:
Fellowship Opportunity:
Terry Crain has recently emailed members asking if we would like to resurrect ‘Jonny Logan’. This would involve us being in charge of a facebook page that follows Jonny Logan and the situations he finds himself in on campus. It will be discussed in more detail next week.
Honors in Action Update/Info:
Theme 6: “Food Fight!: Competition and Food” Question #9: “How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities?”
President, Anna Buetow, reminds members that anyone is able to do research at any time. We will have a set date that we will be working on it soon. Keep the Theme and Question in mind because you never know what will come up in your daily life that relates to it!
MARK YOUR CALANDARS: Wednesday, September 4th, 2013, during our regular meeting time plus extra time will be given to do official research for our Honors in Action project. More information will be in next week's minutes.
Anything else??
Tom Chandler has joined us for the meeting. He is currently seeking more information about our Advisor position. We were very excited to have him as a guest this meeting. We very quickly realized that we have been missing the prospective of an advisor to help keep up in track. Hopefully we will find someone to fill this position soon.
Also, due to unfortunate circumstances one of our chapter's officer position, Vice President of Membership, is now vacant. If you would like to have the chance to fulfill this position, you may contact this email for more information. Also, if you are interested please come prepared to the meeting Wednesday, August 28th with a short speech as to why you'd like to be the Vice President of Membership and a bit about yourself. The Vice President of Membership's position is mainly to help provide information to all members and perspective members, as well as keep track of new and old members. Once again, please email: [email protected] for more information.
Also, we have currently changed the time of our weekly meetings to 1:30pm. Meetings will still be held in room B48. Remember, weekly meetings are for all members! Even perspective members. Please join us, if you can! The more the merrier. If you are unable to attend, keep up with the minutes and, hopefully, we will see you at future events!
Adjournment:
Before adjourning the meeting, President, Anna Buetow, thanks everyone who is able to make it to the meeting and hopes those not present are able to keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter.
Motion to Adjourn by Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming.
Motion seconded by Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan.
Meeting Adjourned at 2:44pm by President, Anna Buetow.
Your Chapter Secretary,
