Meeting Minutes: February 11, 2014
Call to Order-
President, Anna Buetow, calls the meeting to order at 3:00pm.

Treasurer Report-
Treasurer, Ashlee Sanders, reports that we currently have $5,713.43 in our chapter's account. There has not been any significant changes within our funds.
Fundraising Report-
Fundraising Coordinator, Ashlee Sanders, reminds members that we are having Our Valentine’s Day Bake Sale is this Thursday, February 13th (In The Skylight Lounge) and Friday, February 14th (In E Wing). She also thanks Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, for making the fliers that have been posted around campus. Ashlee states that the soda for Crush for Your Crush that we are doing at the Valentines Day bake sale has been bought and will be reflected in the Treasury report next week.
Fellowship and Service Report-
Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming, reminds members that there is an Italian Dinner on JALC campus on Wednesday, February 19th from 4:30-7:30. It is $5 and all proceeds go to scholarships. After the dinner there will be a free basketball game that we could also attend. Come on out to support your school's scholarships!
In 2011, Phi Theta Kappa launched the Community College Completion Corps (C4), a student led, campus-based effort to increase student success by informing all students about the benefits of completing a credential/degree and the consequences of not. As a result, hundreds of
thousands of community college students have pledged to Commit to Complete – accepting responsibility for completing their credential/degree and promising to help at least one other student complete. Kristi asks members to think about ideas on doing a C4 event after spring break. You can find out more information about C4 at http://www.cccompletioncorps.org/.

Membership Report-
Vice President of Membership, Denetta Magruder announces that we have up coming orientation dates of February 18th from 11:00am-12:30pm in room B48 and February 24th from 12:30-1:15 in room B48. Spring Induction has been scheduled for Monday, March 3 at 6:00pm. Mark your calendars because this is a great experience for all members to be a part of!
Also prospective members will be receiving their letters. Encourage them to join or contact the chapter at [email protected] if they have more questions!
Public Relations Report-
Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan has nothing to report at this time.
Committee Report-
College Project report:
Attending members discussed last week’s meeting with Dr. Dreith and his concerns for safety on campus. All members agree that there are two separate paths that are possible to take: mental health or gun safety. Several members are interested in a possibly making a general safety flier. Another interest is having an event on campus and inviting a special speaker. Chapter members also decide it would be beneficial to talk to Campus Safety and Life Savers on campus. Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, volunteers to attend the life savers meeting this Friday and Secretary, Brandi Husch volunteers to email Campus Safety to invite them to our next weekly meeting. President, Anna Buetow, encourages chapter members to keep brainstorming different approaches to this new challenge that Dr. Dreith has put before us!
Honors in Action Report:
The next Honors in Action project will start up in the Fall of 2014. Stay tuned!
Scrapbooking Report:
Scrapbooking is held at 2-3pm Wednesdays in B48.
New Business-
Attached to this email is the final copy of Upsilon Pi’s Bylaws that will be voted on at next week’s meeting. If you have any question/suggestions please email Secretary, Brandi Husch, at [email protected].

Attached to this email is the final design of our chapter shirt for this semester. If you are interested in purchasing one please contact Treasurer, Ashlee Sanders, at [email protected] you’re your t-shirt size. They are $15 and we will make an order after we get a several orders together. We will be selling very few at this semesters Induction, but supplies will be limited.
With Induction coming up, we need to nominate our Honorary Inductees. Honorary Inductees are one Non-teaching Professional, Full Time Faculty, and Part Time Faculty that members get to nominate to be inducted as an Honorary Member of the Chapter. Those who are nominated on Tuesday (2/18) will then be voted on the next week. The winners will be asked to join us at Induction. If you are unable to attend the meeting Tuesday and want to nominate someone, please email [email protected] with your nomination by Tuesday at 12:00pm.
Reminder: The time of our weekly meetings will be from 3:00pm until 4:00pm on Tuesdays **except for the last Tuesday of every month is reserved for an officer meeting**. Meetings are held in room B48 across from the Information desk. Remember, weekly meetings are for ALL members, even perspective members! Please join us, if you can at any time! It’s okay to be running late! The more, the merrier. If you are unable to attend, keep up with the minutes and, hopefully, we will see you at future events! Chapter President, Anna Buetow is also available in B48 from 2-3pm if anyone is unable to make it to the meetings.
Advisor, Adrienne Barkley-Giffin wants to remind all students of all the scholarship available through the Foundation Office on campus. There are scholarships for students that are planning stay at John A. Logan and those that plan on transferring, as well. Please visit www.jalc.edu for more information.
