Committee Report-
College Project report:
Write-up for 2013-2014 College Project is finished and submitted!!!
The purpose of a College Project is to establish and/or strengthen a supportive relationship between the chapter and the college administration. We were honored to have our College President, Dr. Mike Dreith, join us this meeting to brainstorm different ideas for our 2014-2015 College Project. Dr. Dreith stated he was worried about safety on campus. He stated that, “often times in history college campus are scenes of violence.” This concern also stems from all the gun violence that has surrounded not only our local community recently, but also across the nation. Some questions that were asked were: Do students know what to do if there is a live shooter on campus? Do students know who to contact if someone is threating to hurt themselves or others? How can someone spot peculiar behavior? Gun safety is a hot topic on campus with the new conceal and carry laws in Illinois, but also keeping in mind that we host Hunting and Fishing Days on campus. Hunting and Fishing Days is a huge event on, but it involves guns. How John A. Logan chooses to handle this issue will greatly effect Hunting and Fishing Days. When asked what he would rather Upsilon Pi should focus on; mental health or gun safety, Dr. Dreith stated, “I think you need to pick and choose. Safety is pretty broad.” So what will Upsilon Pi choose? Come to the next meeting and help us decide!
