College Project report--
President, Anna Buetow, gives an update on the College Project. The video script has been APPROVED by the College. Filming needs to begin and, hopefully, end next week. Editing should follow the week after as well as getting the word out to teachers to show the video in the classrooms. Secretary and Director of the video, Brandi Husch, will contact Scott Elliott and make sure perspective filming date works for him and report back at next week’s meeting. Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, volunteered to be Assistant Director. We still need volunteers to be in the video! Every person counts, so you’re welcome to bring a friend or two to help out! President, Anna Buetow, suggested we add a possible ten second segment of a tutoree talking about how much the Student Success Center has helped them. Most members were undecided if we would have time for the segment, but decided we could film it and then decide during editing if it fits. Now that the script is approved this video is at the top of our priority list!!! If you have any questions/comments please contact Brandi Husch at[email protected].
Bulletin board Report--
President, Anna Buetow reports that e bulletin board is still under construction but looking really good!!
Scrapbooking Report--
Scrapbooking Committee Head, Europe Doan, asked members to decide on a date to get the June pages done and pick out the pictures for the July pages. Members agreed on next Wednesday (July 31, 2013) at 12:30pm in room B48. If you have any questions/comments, please contact Europe Doan at[email protected].
Chapter Website-
Several members were excited to hear the update on our chapter’s website that Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, has made for us. As of right now the website is published but has not been advertized yet. The officers need to learn how to blog and some work on fine tuning the graphics, which Vice President of Membership, Drew Hans, agrees to help with.
Old Business:
Service Opportunities--
President, Anna Buetow, reminds members of the service project called “Stuff the Bus.” More information will be attached to minutes. It is a chance to help donate school supplies for students in need as the new school year approaches. Donations can be dropped off in the front entrance to the CHEC building during the month of July. Think about how many supplies we could donate if everyone just bought at least one item on the list!
Last week, Secretary, Brandi Husch, mention that a 5 year old girl named Sunny is suffering from cancer. For updates and please visit her on Facebook athttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Rays-of-Hope-for-Sunni-Casey-Page/213686208713840 . Hopefully we can get involved in a fundraiser at a later date.
Fellowship Opportunities:
St. Louis to the City Museum on Saturday, August 17, 2013. This will give us as members a chance to catch up with one another as the new Fall 2013 semester begins and a chance to see our former President Christina Boyce (YAY!!!!!). More details soon!!
New Business:
Service Opportunities-
No new Service Opportunities just a reminder to look into the “Stuff the Bus” project, if you’d like to help out!
Fellowship Opportunities-
No new Fellowship Opportunities just a reminder to mark your calendars for the perspective City Museum Trip on Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Honors in Action Update/Info:
President, Anna Buetow, had the members fill out a tally sheet with possible Honors in Action research questions. The sheet were collected and counted and through analyzing the numbers we were able to narrow it down to four main questions from Theme 3 (Economics), Theme 6 (Food), and Theme 8 (Education). After some brainstorming and discussion, we were able to narrow down to two final questions: 1. How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities? (Theme 6) 2. How does the educational system of the United States compete with those of other nations? What factors are taken into consideration when determining these rankings? (Theme 8) We went back and forth between these two questions keeping in mind research and action options during the discussion. Then President, Anna Buetow, put the two questions up for a vote. It was voted by majority of the present members that Theme 6 “Food Fight!: Competition and Food” is our Honors in Action Theme with question number 9 “How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities?” being our question for exploration.
Anything else?? :
A few members asked about the C4 signing project that we have discussed doing before. C4 signing is a project to get student to commit to complete their degrees. It was suggested that we should have more than one opportunity for students to sign this, possibly one being on Mix-It-Up Day. Members are encouraged to think about some of these ideas so we can brainstorm at next week’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Adjournment:
Before adjourning the meeting, President, Anna Buetow, thanks everyone who is able to make it to the meeting and hopes those not present are able to keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter.
