Upcoming Events: Plate Waste Study
For our Honors in Action project, we have chosen theme 6, "Competition and Food", question 9, "How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities?"
As part of our project, we are going to Carterville Elementary school to discover what health choices 2nd graders are making at lunch time. We will do this by choosing two items, such as an apple and a cookie, and count how many kids eat these items. We will use this data in a nutrition presentation we are giving them on December 19th (i.e. more than half of you chose to eat your cookie and not your apple.) The goal of the presentation is to teach the kids what a healthy plate is using the USDA's MyPlate, and teach them how to make one themselves.
If you want to join us in our plate waste study on Monday, November 25th, then please RSVP to Europe Doan at [email protected] or leave your contact information below and she will get back to you!
