Fundraising Report
President, Anna Buetow, gives the fundraising report:
Hunting & Fishing Days (September 28th from 9:00am-5:00pm and 29th from 9:00am-4:00pm) –
Hunting and Fishing Days is fast approaching and now that we have a booth reserved it is time to get things finalized. After some discussion we decided to have three different activities ready. The first activity is camouflage face painting for kids. President, Anna Buetow, volunteers to get the face paint that we will need. Our second activity is leaf and bark rubbing. Secretary, Brandi Husch, Vice President of Membership, Ethan Edwards, and Will Safran volunteer to bring leaves, bark, and crayons for this activity. The last activity is a memory game that President, Anna Buetow, and Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming are working together on. We will be having a 50/50 raffle and will also be raffling off all items that were donated. We are also taking volunteers to work at our booth during the event both Saturday and Sunday. If you want to sign up to help please contact Ashlee at [email protected].
Mix It Up Day--
Mix It Up Day’s date will be on October 23, from 10am until 2/3pm. Mix it Up Day's Mission/Goal: “To break down social barriers between students, teachers, clubs, and faculty, which could hinder their chances to make new communication lines with people, through activities such as ice breakers and music”
President, Anna Buetow, will be emailing all members that volunteered to contact the different clubs/organizations on campus. This email will include a rough draft of the email that said volunteers will be sent out to the different clubs/organizations, the date of the meeting we are inviting them to, and room we will be meeting in.
Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, and Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming, volunteer to meet and make said list. If have any ideas for an activity that we could do for this event please feel free to contact Europe at [email protected] or Kristi at [email protected].
Current Suggested Activity list:
• The Question Ball – Players sit in a circle, toss the ball to another player who then reads and answers the question their hand landed on.
• Duck, Duck, Fact – Players sit in a circle while another player goes around in a circle. The leader then tags a sitting player, but instead of saying “goose,” the player shouts a random fact about themselves.
• The Blinded Course – Players help their blind-folded, team player retrieve the most balls.
Pie-A-Kappan: We need for sure volunteers for this fundraising opportunity with a Mix It Up Day Goal: “To get the heads of student clubs/organizations and faculty members to Mix It Up by volunteering to be pied in the face if their Kappan raises the most money for Upsilon Pi.” The winners will, hopefully, be “pied” in the face on Mix It Up Day. A Kappan may select up to two heads of student clubs/organizations and faculty member for this event. The Kappan who raises the most money for Upsilon Pi will get themselves and their chosen students and faculty “pied” in the face. President, Anna Buetow, suggested that we should make 10% or so of the total amount raised go to the winner's charity of choice. Present members felt that this is great idea and we will be discussing what charities should be an option in the future.
President, Anna Buetow, mentions other fundraising opportunities that are coming up:
Bake Sale: Sept. 30th from 12-2:30/3pm.
Committee Report:
College Project report--
Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, made a form for tutors to fill out that will help us determine if we helped increase the number of students that receive free tutoring. The forms have been given to the tutors and they have been using them. Secertary, Brandi Husch, reports that she will be picking up the forms weekly from the front desk at the Student Success Center. Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, suggests we start getting the paper forms into electronic forms as we go to avoid having to all of it at once. Attending members agreed that this would be the best option and brainstormed on the best way to achieve this. Chapter Photographer, Will Safran, volunteered to get working on this with all suggestions in mind.
Scrapbooking Report--
Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, reports that scrapbooking is back on track and that the quotes for the months of August and September have been picked out as following: August- “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up the most certain way to succeed is always to try on more time.” and September- “Work is hard, distractions are plentiful, and time is short.” Members are reminded to keep a look out for any kind of clock stickers, stamps, and magazine pictures that will go with our scrapbook theme of “Time”. *We will be scrapbooking next week Wednesday, October 2, 2012 in room B48.*
New Business:
Honors in Action (HIA) Update/Info:
Theme 6: “Food Fight!: Competition and Food” Question #9: “How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities?”
Last week, Advisor, Adrienne Giffin reminds members of all the resources we have available to us right on campus through the nursing faculty and nutrition teachers. President, Anna Buetow, agrees that we need to take advantage of the resources readily available to us and want to see that happening this week and next week. Let's see what they have to say about our topic. Anna asks if anyone would like to talk with someone from the nursing and nutrition fields at John A. Logan. Secretary, Brandi Husch, volunteers to contact someone from the nursing department or a nutrition teacher from John A. to join us in a meeting.
President, Anna Buetow, reminds members that anyone is able to do research at any time. Keep the Theme and Question in mind because you never know what will come up in your daily life that relates to it!
Anything else:
Also, we have currently changed the time of our weekly meetings to 1:30pm. Meetings will still be held in room B48. Remember, weekly meetings are for all members, even perspective members! Please join us, if you can! The more, the merrier. If you are unable to attend, keep up with the minutes and, hopefully, we will see you at future events!
Adjournment:
Before adjourning the meeting, President, Anna Buetow, thanks everyone who is able to make it to the meeting and hopes those not present are able to keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter.
