Call to Order:
President, Anna Buetow, calls the meeting to order at 1:30.

Fundraising Coordinator, Ashlee Sanders, gives the fundraising report:
Bake Sale–
Ashlee also reminds members that we have a Halloween bake sale coming up on Thursday, October 31stat 10:30pm to 2:30pm.
Pie-A-Kappan— Anna Buetow, Europe Doan, Ethan Edwards, Brandi Husch, Ashlee Sanders and Will Safran will be participating in Mix It Up Day's fundraising opportunity, Pie-A-Kappan, with a Mix It Up Day Goal: “To get the heads of student clubs/organizations and faculty members to Mix It Up by volunteering to be pied in the face if their Kappan raises the most money for Upsilon Pi.” The winners will, hopefully, be “pied” in the face on Mix It Up Day. A Kappan may select up to two heads of student clubs/organizations and faculty member for this event. The Kappan who raises the most money for Upsilon Pi will get themselves and their chosen students and faculty “pied” in the face. 10% of the chapter's fundraised earnings will be given to Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship, which is a Phi Theta Kappa promoted scholarship with the goal of helping Phi Theta Kappans who are struggling financially to complete their degree.

Kristi Fleming, Vice President of Fellowship gives the report of upcoming fellowship and service events.
Mix It Up Day--
Mix It Up Day’s date CHANGED. It will now be on Wednesday, October 30, from 10am until 2pm. Mix it Up Day's Mission/Goal: “To break down social barriers between students, teachers, clubs, and faculty, which could hinder their chances to make new communication lines with people, through activities such as ice breakers and music.” Kristi states it a bit simpler, “to help people not be cliquey”. Advisor, Adrienne Giffin, suggests an slogan of “No Cliques, Let’s Mix”. Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan mentioned having a bake sale at this event. Present members discussed bringing bake sale items a day early, because we have the Halloween the next day. President, Anna Buetow, passed around a sample of the flyer that we are planning hanging on the bulletined boards around campus. All present members liked the flyer but agree it needs to be printed on colored paper. Hopefully you will see them on campus soon! Anna also announces the rain-out location will be the Skylight Lounge and cafeteria. Team Building--
Touch of Nature in Giant City fellowship event will be on Veteran’s day, Monday, November 11th. Vice President of Fellowship, Kristi Fleming reports she will be book this date with Touch of Nature. President, Anna Buetow, mentions that even if we don’t get it booked at Touch of Nature, we should go hiking that day or any other activity on that date. So please mark this day on your calendar so no matter we can fellowship that day.
Service Opportunities--
Food Drive--
Student Senate sponsors a food drive every year. They ask that the clubs create boxes to collect canned goods. The club that is the “best decorated box” will win $50. The club that collects the most food will win $100. Let’s make this the best!! The member who can get the most canned goods will be allowed to pick a Phi Theta Kappa prize that we have in stock on campus (i.e. coffee cup, key chain, honor cords..). All proceeds will go to JALC students in need as seen by the Financial Aid Office and other outlets through John A. Logan to reach local people in need. We will meet next Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 12:30pm before our regularly scheduled meeting at 1:30pm to work on this project!
Mu Pi Chapter--
A fellow Phi Theta Kappa Chapter, Mu Pi, is working on a service project that is attached to their Honors in Action project. They are asking for your donations, if you can spare some! They’re goal is raise money to buy art supplies in the schools in their area, Chicago. They believe that budget cuts to the Arts are a big issue and they’re working on fixing that. Student Senate Representative Report:
Vice President of Public Relations and Student Senate Representative, Europe Doan, asks all attending members to fill out the Student Senate survey for this semester, if they haven’t already.
Committee Report:
College Project report--
Present members that helped at Loganpalooza reported that 40 students completed our task of physically going to the Student Success Center. It was also reported that everyone had a great time promoting Phi Theta Kappa and handing out the delicious rice crispy treats.
Scrapbooking Report--
Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, reports that we will not be scrapbooking next week because we will be working on the Student Senate food drive box. Europe also requests pictures from the Regional Honors In Action Institute and Leadership Conference. She also states that it is most convenient way to submit pictures is by bringing her a flash drive to copy pictures over. Members are reminded to keep a look out for any kind of clock stickers, stamps, and magazine pictures that will go with our scrapbook theme of “Time”.
Honors in Action Report--
Honors in Action (HIA) Update/Info: Theme 6: “Food Fight!: Competition and Food” Question #9: “How do guidelines, such as the USDA’s Food Pyramid and school lunch programs compete with or match parental/community food standards and/or realities?”
Secretary, Brandi Husch, reports that she is meeting with nutrition teacher, Paula Most on Friday and asked present members report questions to ask Paula to her as soon as possible.
Present members discussed the meeting last week with Charles Rudolph and all the information we gained. After some discussion it was decided that we will focus our questions to Jr. high and elementary schools per Mr. Rudolph’s advice.
Secretary, Brandi Husch, volunteers to call the school’s in our district of John A. Logan to see who will be interested in helping us with our Honors in Action Project. After we find out the schools that are willing to help we will start assigning schools to the members to handle who live the closest to that school.
Vice President of Membership, Ethan Edwards, and Vice President of Public Relations Europe Doan are still planning on meeting with Scott Elliot to discuss how to go about statistics and numerical data in our project.
President, Anna Buetow, reminds members that anyone is able to do research at any time. Keep the Theme and Question in mind because you never know what will come up in your daily life that relates to it!
New Business:
First Official Orientation was on Tuesday, October 15th at 3:30 to 4:30pm. Vice President of Membership, Ethan Edwards reports that there were three people that showed up and stayed the full hour and asked plenty of questions. The next one will be Monday, October 21stat 12 to 1:30pm in B48. Also, don’t forget that Induction for new members will be Monday, October 28th at 6:00pm in the Tarvin-Crisp Conference Center room. ALL MEMBERS are welcomed to come to the induction and support and greet the new members!
The Honorary Inductees for the Fall 2013 induction will be Non-teaching Professional, Teri Campbell, Full Time Faculty, Tom Chandler and Part Time Faculty, Rodger Von Lanken. Honorary Inductees are one Non-teaching Professional, Full Time Faculty, and Part Time Faculty that members get to nominate to be inducted as an Honorary Member of the Chapter.

Vice President of Public Relations, Europe Doan, asks the members that attended to write up a quick article on their experience and submit it to her as soon as possible.

Also, we have currently changed the time of our weekly meetings to 1:30pm. Meetings will still be held in room B48. Remember, weekly meetings are for all members, even perspective members! John A. Logan College will be hosting a free concert and forum bringing together activists, scholars, students and the community to discuss the past, present and future of Illinois workers on Wednesday, October 23rd called: Illinois Works: A Conversation.
